Do you feel like your car may be one of the greenest on the streets? Well, just because your car does well on fuel doesn't actually mean it is one of the greenest! For your car to be one hundred percent eco-friendly, every component should be recyclable and biodegradable. Are you asking yourself: is it even possible to make tires, seat covers, and floor mats completely green? Well, you are in luck, because Mitsubishi has the answer.
In an effort to stop global warming, diminish CO2 emissions while using fossil fuel resources, Mitsubishi Motors is on a mission to decrease the carbon footprint of cars like the Mitsubishi Lancer. The Japanese automaker will cut CO2 emissions by creating environmentally friendly materials also known as "Green Plastic." By utilizing plant based chemicals a plastic-like substance can be produced.
Fibers are created from plant based resin using sugarcane molasses, then wrapped in regular petroleum-based polypropylene sheaths, which allow it to meet performance demanded. The first test using this material is making Mitsubishi floor mats for forthcoming Mitsubishi models.
"Mitsubishi Motors?has developed a new floor mat made using plant-based bio-polyethylene (bio-PE) fibre to add to its lineup of proprietary plant-based "Green Plastic" products. The company plans to start production of the new floor mats in the summer of 2012," the auto maker's official statement reads.1
Next time you stop by Anaheim Mitsubishi at 1300 South Auto Center Drive in Anaheim, California, you might be entering the greenest dealer of the most natural cars to date.
